High School Admissions for 2011-12 School
Year
Thank you for
your interest in Pacific Buddhist Academy.
At Pacific
Buddhist Academy,
we believe strong relationships are the key to personal happiness and
academic
success. In keeping with that value, our
admissions process places primacy upon determining that our program is
the best
possible fit for each student we enroll. We
recognize the fact that parents and guardians
know their child best
and have found that a student’s wellbeing and educational experience
are
greatly enhanced when parents and teachers work together as partners. We therefore encourage families to
participate fully in every aspect of their child’s education, starting
with the
application process.
Students
and their families who are interested in attending PBA should call the
school
to request an application packet and to schedule a morning visit. Before the day of their visit, parents should
complete and return a brief questionnaire included in the packet. On the day of their visit, students and
parents will observe classes in session and have a chance to talk with
faculty
and current students. The purpose of
this visit is to provide students and families with a candid snap shot
of the
PBA programs and learning environment.
Choosing
the best school for a child is as much a family’s decision as it is a
school’s. In addition to written
materials about PBA, the school visit and individual interviews are
meant to
give parents and students the information they need
to make this important decision.
For
our part, PBA’s selection for admission is made on the basis of:
- Personal, separate interviews
with students and parents/guardians with the Dean of Students and Head
of School
- Transcripts of previous and
current grades
- Recommendations of current
teachers
We realize that grades alone
do not
always accurately reflect a student’s capacity to succeed in a college
prep
environment and for this reason, all three criteria are taken into
consideration with a special emphasis placed on the personal
interviews.
Applications are
received on a rolling basis but only those students who demonstrate a
potential
to thrive at PBA are invited to attend. If a student is accepted,
parents
will be mailed a PBA enrollment contract with instructions by early
April.
Although most students enter
PBA in the freshman year and there are usually
limited openings available at other grade levels, parents are
encouraged to
call the admissions offices to check for openings due to attrition.
Applicants
will be considered as long as vacancies exist.
Pacific Buddhist Academy
is currently accepting applications for the 2011-12 school year for
students
entering grades 9 through 12.
