Pacific Buddhist Academy commits to enrolling a student body that reflects the socioeconomic, linguistic, cultural and learning style diversity of Hawai‘i. Indeed, PBA's project of peace would not be possible without a diverse community, as our young people need to learn to negotiate differences to practice peace. We understand the significant financial resources families devote to send their children to PBA, and we are grateful that families support their children's learning at PBA. Each year, we devote significant funds to need-based tuition assistance and scholarships to help families afford the cost of a PBA education. PBA intends to expand its resources each year so that a broader segment of the community is able to consider the promise of a PBA education for their child.
The PBA Board of Trustees normally decides the tuition level for the academic year beginning in August each January.
Tuition for the 2017-2018 academic year is $14,900.
PBA also assesses a Comprehensive Fee that covers expenses associated with athletics, clubs, activities and other features of the school year. The Comprehensive Fee for the 2017-2018 academic year is $575.
The Comprehensive Fee includes, but is not limited to:
Annual School Camp
On-line and hard copy textbooks
PBA makes every effort to support families who qualify for tuition assistance. The financial aid process is held in the strictest of confidence.
Tuition assistance is based on demonstrated family need as verified by Parent Financial Statement (PFS) from the School and Student Services by the National Association of Independent Schools, or SSS by NAIS. To be considered in PBA's first round of awards, families must:
- Complete the admissions application process and be accepted to the school.
- Complete the SSS by NAIS application.
- Upload a completed 2016 income tax form.
The priority deadline for first round consideration is February 20, 2017.
The procedure to apply for tuition assistance is the same after the priority deadline. If funds are available after the first round, applications for tuition assistance are accepted and considered as they are received.
Families must apply for tuition assistance annually.
Please contact PBA’s business manager Patrick Ito for questions about financial aid.
Tuition discounts are available for select families.
- Members of affiliate temples of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii are eligible for a tuition discount of 5%.
- Families enrolling more than one student at PBA are eligible for a tuition discount of 5%.
- Families are permitted only one discount per school year.
PBA also offers a priority admissions process for families of PBA's educational partner Hongwanji Mission School. PBA waives the admissions application fee for families from HMS, and offers priority consideration for acceptance to the school.
The deadline for HMS priority consideration for acceptance is February 15, 2017.
