Visitor Programs for Neighbor Island and International Students
Pacific Buddhist Academy encourages neighbor island and international families interested in study at PBA to explore the possibility of a study experience at the school!
Pacific Buddhist Academy’s International Program provides visiting students an opportunity to experience the culture and landscape of Hawaii in the context of America’s first Shin Buddhist college-preparatory high school. PBA is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.
PBA designs four progressively immersive types of study for interested visiting students.
ELL Summer Camp (five to ten days). PBA designs five- to ten-day intensive English language learning summer camps for individual and groups of English language learners.
- Short-Term Stay (six weeks). PBA's school year calendar of six-week academic core intensives easily lends itself to six-week courses of study for visiting students.
Long-term stay (full semester or school year). Some visiting students want an extended course of study at PBA. PBA designs semester or year-long experiences for these students.
Diploma track (one to four years). Neighbor island and international students can request PBA's assistance to pursue a diploma at PBA. PBA offers services to support neighbor island and international students.
Tuition for international students varies according to the length of stay, but is based on PBA's base tuition and the study program (ELL Summer Camp, Short-Term or Long-Term Exchange), international student health insurance coverage (required) and the cost of homestay. Please contact the school to obtain an updated tuition quote.
Tuition includes PBA school lunch, uniforms (three t-shirts and one heather polo), textbooks or on-line subscription, supplemental novels and supplies as needed, and transfers to/from the airport. Tuition does not include airfare or personal expenses.
Pacific Buddhist Academy partners with Hawaii Global Education Foundation (HGEF) to coordinate homestay accommodations. HGEF specializes in placing visiting students in safe, healthy, and positive environments with caring families. Homestays can be arranged for different lengths of time up to a year. For convenience, PBA bundles homestay costs into the overall cost of attending PBA for any length of stay.
PBA develops programs of study to help English language learners maximize their mastery of the language. The school employs a "sheltered instruction" approach for ELL learners, blending direct English language instruction as well as support for ELL learners embedded in regular academic classes.
