PBA Walk / Run for Peace Spring 2021
The Walk / Run for Peace is an annual PBA community tradition stretching back seven years to when former PBA advancement director Rüdiger “Rudy” Rückmann recruited a PBA-based Honolulu Marathon team to join his training as a school fundraiser. Since then, the Walk / Run for Peace Team has grown annually, both in numbers of participants and total donations raised for PBA’s Annual Fund.
While the Walk / Run for Peace changes format for Spring 2021 – we will be untethered from the Honolulu Marathon, and the W/R4P Team will train and put our qualifying miles in across the island in order to make certain we all stay healthy and safe in the era of COVID-19 – the tradition lives on.
The way it works
We are hopeful that every person and household pet connected with PBA that desires to pitch in, who is interested in health, wellness and philanthropy on behalf of the school, will join our pledge-based fundraiser by walking, running or wheeling themselves (for those entrants that are not able to walk) as many miles as possible from sunup to sunset on Saturday and Sunday March 13 & 14.
Participants will join the families of PBA cross country as we walk and run from our homes and favorite locations on those days. W/R4P tanks, hats and t-shirts will be available for purchase by order. PBA encloses an eight-week training plan for participants that’ll get you from couch surfing to jogging nearly a half hour. We also enclose a pledge form and some information you can share about the school with prospective pledges.
Use the pledge form to ask family and friends to donate an amount of money to the school per mile. Donors can pledge a quarter, a dollar, ten dollars mile, whatever they feel is appropriate.
On the days of the event (March 13 and March 14), W/R4P teammates should record the number of miles they walk or run. And following the event, they should collect the donations, thank the donors, and turn in the donations and pledge sheet so the PBA Advancement Office can send the wonderful donors their acknowledgement letters.
